Selection of images from DP Kilfeather's Battle of Trafalgar re-enactment body of work comprising 400 photographs. The exhibition Glorious Trafalgar juxtaposes stunningly beautiful photographs with the actual history of the battle where 5000 sailors lost their lives. The work was informed by Kilfeather's own background in the Royal Navy and his incredulity at humankind's enduring imperative to glorify war.

In 2005 Kilfeather, as a RN veteran, was accredited as an independent freelance photographer to work alongside the Royal Navy during the Trafalgar 200 programme.

Trafalgar 200 Through the Lens book with 400 photographs has been accepted into the Royal Collection and into the National Portrait Gallery collection. It is available on loan from Libraries around the UK, and from Amazon. Queen Elizabeth II, herself, had a Buckingham Palace thank you Des letter written, describing the photographs as 'fascinating'.

The philosophical aesthetic of Des's physical artworks and their NFT Digital Evolutions, proposes that everything and everyone is connected. Perhaps first suggested scientifically through Quantum Particle Entanglement theories. Particle partners, science theorises, move at virtually exactly the same time, even when Billions of Light Years apart. Des's physical artworks, oils, watercolours, prints, all connect together with options into Infinity? With NFTs being, today, a method of exhibiting that theory? Thinking initially inspired and evolved following exploring Carl Jung and his Collective Unconscious theories, evolved through science theories that animals and even vegetation could well be part of those possibilities...

Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, a visual response

Artist's Book, Prints and Travelling Exhibition.

This ongoing "work in progress" project by Des Kilfeather currently comprises the evolution of 30 images of scanned or photographed watercolour marks made on pages of a found, 1966 copy of Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. The work includes the original source book, with pencilled comments by a previous unknown reader.

James Joyce’s Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, a Visual Response, represents a continuation of Kilfeather’s philosophical exploration of ethics and time. Referring to Aristotle and Joyce and drawing on his own personal experience of Irish Catholic culture, the work was, apparently contradicting his previous processes in that it was Kilfeather’s emotional and reactionary response to his first reading of the book. Kilfeather absorbed the texts, made abstract watercolour marks onto pages of the book, plein air, high resolution photographed these then applied a process of semi-destruction of the book in the sea.

To resolve this phase, Kilfeather scanned pages containing anonymous handwritten comments, prepared digital files and published Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, a Visual Response, as an eBook. Materials and processes establish the connection between Joyce’s early 20th Century, Kilfeather’s critical 1966 and contemporary culture.

The evolutionary objective is to further establish these connections using contemporary photogravure plate making with intaglio and mixed media digital printing with silk screen to create a series of original limited edition prints, the first of which, Page 221, has been completed and selected for the National Open Art Exhibitions 2013. Page 221 the intaglio print is being exhibited as part of NOA13 at the Royal College of Art London and Minerva Theatre Chichester in October and November 2013, click on About DP Kilfeather for dates.

Page 221 was editioned (7) in collaboration with master printmaker David Borrington of Dekkle Studios.

A travelling exhibition of prints, painting, collage and artist's book.

The book (ISBN 978-0-9553004-1-7) comprising 16 digital printed plates will be hand stitched and bound, to archival standards. The book size is approximately 310 x 490 mm. Each book may have a very individual look and feel both tactile and visual depending upon the materials used and print material substrate. Whilst there is continuing availability of materials the book will be hard covered to archival standards using handmade banana plant fibre paper.

News: The University at Buffalo, New York, has acquired copy number 1 of the artist's book for its globally acclaimed poetry collection.

Amazon worldwide now features a low cost downloadable version of the book. Which does not work very well today, but is priced accordingly.
